This photo depicts one of my favorite but rarely visited National Parks. Through the swirling canyon walls one can sense the reason why various native peoples have lived in this spiritual place for thousands of years. The canyon contains ruins of native villages built between 350 and 1300 AD at the base of sheer red cliffs and within canyon walls. Canyon de Chelly still sustains a community of Navajo people today, who are connected to a landscape of great historical and spiritual significance.
